Neither of us had much money. Warren always joked about the change I had in my purse when we were married, something like 38 cents. We took a train up to our honeymoon spot in Northern Wisconsin on Lake George called Shorewood Vista. We had a cottage and ate our meals in the main lodge. It was cool in the mornings and evenings but sunny and warm in the afternoons. We became acquainted with everyone. I quickly learned Warren was a people person. We played tennis with one couple, Gayle and Doc. They were from Chicago, and we called them years later only to learn that they had divorced. We toured the area with another couple and even our bus boy invited us into his home to meet his mother. We enjoyed our week so much we didn’t want to leave, so we moved into the lodge and Warren took on working with the horses so we could afford another week. We had a wonderful honeymoon and often said we should go back, but never did.

Warren had put in one semester of summer school at Carroll College and now was ready to get back into it in September. We rented one large room at Mrs. Salentines in Waukesha. It was conveniently located for both of us – close to Warren’s school and my job as a secretary at the courthouse working for Mr. Neal and Mr. Baird. I made $150 a month. I enjoyed this job and it was an interesting place to work. I became acquainted with the caseworkers and other secretaries and found it to be a friendly environment.
