We laughed at the craziness of going into the ministry at that time, that we would put our lives into God’s hands – but believe me, things fell into place and it all worked out.

When I was seven months pregnant with Pete, Warren called from the bank asking if he could bring a couple, Hal and Sue McNutt, home for dinner. They were from Oklahoma City, in town and Hal was going to the Presbyterian Men’s meeting in downtown Milwaukee that evening. I had dinner in the oven – pork chops and baked potatoes, so of course I probably hesitated but I said “okay, I’ll throw more potatoes in the oven.”

After dinner the men left for this meeting and Sue helped me all evening, playing and reading to the children, giving them baths and tucking them in. Then we enjoyed the rest of the evening just visiting.

Days later a large box of chocolates arrived along with a note, and when we arrived at McCormich Seminary that September we discovered that our tuition had been paid for one year. We later found out it was the McNutts.

Be careful, you might be entertaining angels unaware. - Hebrews

We were in the Waukesha Presbyterian Church, where Reverend Aubrey Young was the minister. The people knew of our leaving and where we were going. Lois and Ralph Stairc stored our furniture for the years in seminary. Dr. Davies charged us $1.00 for delivering Peter. He had been a missionary doctor and then our doctor for years. They were in our church and Doris in my circle. When our first baby was stillborn, Dr. Davies said he had never seen such an outpouring of love-there were flowers all over my room.
