At some
point Warren moved into Jim Barttell’s home on Yearling, and we
later bought this house. It was very convenient to the church, and again
we had great neighbors. I will always feel God put us here because Warren
deserved a good ministry as he neared his later years, and it certainly
was that.
After his year of stated supply the congregation voted for him to stay.
We loved it in St. Louis. It was a wonderful congregation, with so many
good friends. We started playing golf with a group from church and we
all became close friends.
At this time Pete was still in New York with TWA. Shortly after he moved
there he became ill and I remember talking on the phone daily to see
how he was doing, and each day he sounded worse. I finally said, “I’m
going!” I had soup in a container for him, and met a stewardess
on the flight. We sat together and she was fascinated that I was on
my way to my ill son with homemade soup. When we arrived she insisted
I wait and meet her husband, who was a pilot. They lived in Connecticut.
They insisted that they drive me to Pete’s and they did. He lived
in Roseyln and of course I’m sure it wasn’t that convenient
but so wonderful that they did this. It was great being in New York
with Pete for a few days. As exciting as it was for him to be living
there he was pleased later to be transferred to St. Louis and what a
blessing for us to have him near. We loved it!
We were enjoying St. Louis too, and loved exploring its beautiful surrounding
areas. We found we also loved our break in January. We would spend a
week in Tequesta, Florida with Barbara and Frenchie and then Golf Shore
with Paul and Mary. This went on for a number of years even after Frenchie
died and finally Barbara realized she could no longer go down and sold
it. Paul and Mary bought a condo in Naples so we continued to go down
and loved it and now I have been going alone since Warren died. They
really say they want me!
