This
was a letter written after Warren died. Did I ever send it? I really
don’t know.
I am finding such comfort in your cards and letters. I have received
278 and each day more arrive. Warren touched so many lives. I truly
believe we are God’s instruments and you have all been so loving
and concerned. I so appreciate it.
The children have been so wonderful, each giving of themselves in varied
ways and helping me adjust. The girls each had a turn beginning with
Anne who shared the last week with her Dad and was such a support for
both Pete and me. A very difficult time but so grateful to have been
there with him always.
The memorial service was attended by over three hundred and fifty and
was a real celebration of Warren’s full and very meaningful life.
A young man, Josh Mitchell, is in the Navy band, just happened to be
home and he came and started the service by playing the Navy hymn. This
one request Warren had made many years ago along with “The Palms”
and our dear friend, Lois Sexaur played this. Al and Stacy, our ministers
conducted the service along with Bob Reynolds, Exec Presbytery. Dave
Jones, minister from Western Springs and our dear friend Ed Cook all
had a part in speaking of Warren.
Each had their own experiences but all recognized his complete loyalty
to God and his fellow man, and his energy and determination to get things
done and his love of family and church. The service concluded with bagpipes
playing, “Amazing Grace”. I feel Warren was saying “WOW!”
